Spoofing is a technique in which an attacker attempts to impersonate another person, machine or entity in order to gain unauthorized access to systems or data or to carry out malicious activities.
Various methods can be used in spoofing to disguise the identity of the attacker. These include, for example, forged sender addresses in e-mails, manipulated IP addresses in network packets or forged telephone numbers for calls.
A common form of spoofing is phishing, where a fake email or website is created to trick users into revealing confidential information such as usernames, passwords or credit card numbers.
Various measures can be taken to protect against spoofing attacks, such as using two-factor authentication, checking sender addresses or installing antivirus software.
